Off And Running ...

The Dolphins held their first practice of training camp on Saturday morning and, as is often the case, it was the players who didn't work out who made news. In this case, that was Chad Henne, Joey Porter and Michael Lehan.

Both Porter and Lehan sat out because of ankle injuries and they've both been placed on the physically unable to perform list. They will be taken off PUP once they pass a physical.

As for Henne, he remains unsigned. He's the only of the nine Dolphins draft picks not signed.

Henne missing the first practice was no big deal, but it might become a big deal if it takes a while for him to sign.

The Dolphins made official on Saturday the signing of second-round pick Phillip Merling to a multi-year contract.

It was one of four roster moves announced by the team.

The team also signed wide receiver Anthony Armstrong, who is coming off a season in the Arena League.

On the flip side, the Dolphins released wide receiver Justin Wynn and offensive tackle Dan Gore.

The moves left the Dolphins with 80 players on the roster, and that includes Henne. That means the team won't have to cut a player once Henne signs.

The first cuts come on Tuesday, Aug. 26 when teams have to get down to 75 players.
