McCown On The Move

Turns out the Dolphins indeed traded one of their quarterbacks before the final roster cuts, but it wasn't second-year man John Beck. Rather, it was Josh McCown who was dealt.

According to, McCown was traded on Friday to the Carolina Panthers.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but a good guess would be for a late-round draft pick.

The Panthers became in need of a backup quarterback for Jake Delhomme after Matt Moore was injured in Carolina's preseason finale against Pittsburgh.

McCown's future with the Dolphins pretty much was sealed from the time Chad Pennington was signed. After appearing in only the fourth quarter of the preseason opener, McCown didn't play a down in the final three exhibitions.

It was quite a turn of events for McCown, who thought he was coming here to be the starter after signing in the offseason as a free agent.

But McCown never really did anything in training camp to earn the trust of his coaches and even had he remained with the team, it would have been in a backup capacity.
