Thomas Goes On IR

As first reported on Scout.com, guard Donald Thomas sustained a serious injury in the season opener and the Dolphins confirmed the bad news on Tuesday when they announced the rookie had been placed on injured reserve. That was one of four roster moves the team made.

Also as first reported by Scout.com, fullback Boomer Grigsby was released and the team signed former Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans fullback Casey Cramer to take his roster spot.

To replace Thomas, the Dolphins signed former Carolina third-round pick Evan Mathis. The nephew of former Dolphins defensive tackle Bob Baumhower, Mathis was among Carolina's final cuts this year. He started 15 games in three seasons with the Panthers, all the starts coming in 2006.

The offensive coordinator for the Panthers at that time was Dan Henning, who is filling the same role with the Dolphins this year.

Cramer also played for Henning at Carolina. He has played in 27 NFL games in four seasons with two starts. He has played mostly on special teams and has only two career receptions.
