The Dolphins' 27-24 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday means Dolphins fans now must root for the Green Bay Packers to beat the New York Jets in one of the late games.

It's simple: If the Jets win, they will take the AFC East title, and both the Dolphins and Patriots will be out of the playoffs.

If the Jets lose, New England will take the AFC East and the Dolphins will make the playoffs as a wild card.

Looking further ahead, if the Dolphins do make the playoffs, they will play either at New England or Pittsburgh.

Here's the scenario, of course assuming a Green Bay victory over the Jets.

If Indianapolis wins at home against Jacksonville, then the Colts would be the No. 5 seed, Miami would be No. 6 and travel to Pittsburgh next weekend.

If Indianapolis loses, then the Dolphins would be the No. 5 seed and they would go back to New England next weekend.

But again, none of that matters unless Green Bay beats the Jets.
