New Punter From Down Under

The Dolphins made a roster move last week that went under the radar but could wind up paying big dividends if Jy Bond can become the latest Australian native to succeed as an NFL punter.

The Dolphins signed Bond to a two-year contract on April 16 and he will provide some training camp competition for incumbent punter Brandon Fields.

The son of a former Australian Football League and current television commentator, Bond actually never played in Australia's highest league. Rather, he spent the last three years working on his punting technique.

Bond turned 30 years old on Wednesday. He is hoping to follow in the footsteps of former Australian natives who became NFL punters like Darren Bennett, Ben Graham and Sav Rocca.
