Ferguson was injured on the very last play of the third quarter when the Dolphins stuffed Jonathan Stewart for no gain on a first-and-goal from the 8-yard line.
It was among the few times the Dolphins had success stopping the Carolina running game, and the loss of Ferguson certainly wouldn't help the Dolphins in that department.
You may also see Tony McDaniel and Randy Starks getting playing time at nose tackle if Ferguson indeed is out for an extended period of time, but no matter what, the Dolphins really would miss the veteran.
On a bigger scale, it's not impossible this might signal the end for Ferguson.
He has said a couple of times he's retiring after this season if the Dolphins don't re-sign him and he'll be 35 in late November, so it's hard to envision him going through a long rehab process if we're looking at a serious knee injury.
The Dolphins can only hope that the injury was a big scare, but there will be a lot of uneasiness until we know for sure.
