Roster Move; Tryout Time

In light of the announcement that nose tackle Jason Ferguson was lost for the season because of a quad injury sustained in last Thursday night's victory at Carolina, we knew the Dolphins would be making some roster moves this week. The fun began on Tuesday with a move not involving Ferguson.

Safety Nate Ness, moved up from the practice squad for the Carolina game, has been waived. Logic would suggest he'll be re-signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Ferguson has yet to officially be placed on injured reserve, but that's coming, too. That means the Dolphins now will have two available roster spots.

To that end, the team has been busy bringing in players for workouts. The list includes:

-- CB Ahmad Carroll, a former first-round pick of the Packers who was waived by the Jets last week

-- C Eric Ghiaciuc, a three-year starter for the Cincinnati Bengals

-- DB Evan Oglesby, a four-year veteran who has spent time with the Ravens and Cowboys

-- DE Ikaika Alama-Francis, a former second-round pick of the Lions who started two games last season

-- T Isaac Sowells, who spent three years with Cleveland

-- DT Kory Lichtensteiger, who was waived by Minnesota in September

-- DT Lonnie Harvey, who was waived by Carolina in September

-- DT Scott Paxson, who appeared in one game for the Steelers last year

-- DT Tim Anderson, who started 17 games for Buffalo in 2005-06
