Long Out of the Pro Bowl

It was bad enough that Jake Long was the only Dolphins player selected to the Pro Bowl this year, but as of Friday afternoon Miami doesn't have scheduled to play in the game at its own stadium Jan. 31.

Long is bowing out of the Pro Bowl because of an undisclosed injury, this according to a press release by the New York Jets announcing that D'Brickashaw Ferguson would go to the game as Long's replacement.

Long played all 16 games in 2009 and didn't appear to sustain an injury in the finale against Pittsburgh, so the nature of his injury is unclear.

The Dolphins' only chances to have a representative at the Pro Bowl now rest with other players bowing out because of injuries, personal reasons or because their team is playing in the Super Bowl.

Although the Dolphins did not announce their alternates, it's believed that fullback Lousaka Polite is a first alternate behind Baltimore's Le'Ron McClain and defensive end Randy Starks also is an alternate — although we don't know how far down the line he goes.
