The Daily Take will be posted every weekday at 3 p.m. and will offer our opinion on a pertinent topic involving the Dolphins. Today we look at the free agency strategy.

Donald Hayes. Derrius Thompson. Barry Gardner.

Those are the players who have come to Miami for free agent visits since the market opened last Friday.

Sorry, but those guys aren't going to make the Dolphins significantly better. Hayes was a bust in New England last season, while Thompson is a player in the same mold as Oronde Gadsden, only not as good.

As for Gardner, he was merely a backup with the Eagles last season, playing middle linebacker behind the fading Levon Kirkland. He does not represent a major upgrade over Derrick Rodgers, and he's looking to start.

We're not asking the Dolphins to go after one big name after another, but if the team is serious about being to compete for a championship, it's time to raise the bar a little.

At wide receiver, it's simple, just re-sign Gadsden. He's better than just about anybody who's available.
