Report: Smiley Traded

The Justin Smiley situation apparently has reached a conclusion, with profootballtalk.com reporting Monday that Smiley has been traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The deal would be contingent on Smiley passing a physical, which isn't a lock considering Smiley's recurring shoulder problems.

There's no indication yet as to what the Dolphins would get in return, although it's difficult to envision it being anything more than a late-round draft pick.

Smiley started 24 games in his two seasons with the Dolphins after signing as a free agent from San Francisco in March of 2008. But he wasn't able to shake the injury bug he had with the 49ers.

In 2008, he missed the last four games because of a foot fracture sustained in a victory at St. Louis, and last season he missed one game because of a shoulder injury and didn't start any of the following three games.

When the Dolphins began their offseason conditioning program in March, they told Smiley to stay away as they "worked on some things." Smiley had been expected to be traded during the draft, but the Dolphins obviously never got an offer they liked.

That apparently has all changed.
