THE DAILY TAKE

The Daily Take will be posted every weekday at 3 p.m. and will offer our opinion on a pertinent topic involving the Dolphins. Today we look at the possibility of Brian Griese joining the Dolphins.

Brian Griese has now declared that he would like to join the Dolphins if he can't find a starting job somewhere else.

Is that good news for the Dolphins?

Well, let's start off by saying that if Griese is to join the Dolphins, it won't happen until June 1, which is when the Denver Broncos will release Griese if they haven't been able to trade him by then.

It's difficult to envision anybody making a deal for Griese when everyone knows the Broncos are going to release him anyway.

The question now is whether any team will wait until June 1 to see if they can land Griese. The Chicago Bears are said to be interested because negotiations with Kordell Stewart have hit a snag.

Baltimore and Arizona are the other two teams with clear needs at quarterbacks, and Jeff Blake is also available.

If things fall right, and Griese does join the Dolphins, he certainly would represent an upgrade over Ray Lucas in terms of ability.

But the truth is Lucas' teammates love him, while the opposite was true in Denver with Griese.

So it's looking right now like Griese to Miami is a very good possibility. Now, just think about Lucas, who will be kept around only until someone else is brought in and then will be left to try to find a job.

No matter what you think about the job he did last year, it's a tough situation to be in.
