In a move that certainly can't be considered a surprise, the Dolphins terminated the contract of safety Shawn Wooden on Tuesday.

Wooden finished his second season in his second stint with the Dolphins, and played in all 16 games in 2002. But he became primarily a special teams player and didn't help his cause when he blew a double coverage with Jamar Fletcher that allowed Randy Moss to catch a long pass in the Dolphins' loss at Minnesota.

Besides, the Dolphins already have a couple of backup safeties who are good special teams players in Trent Gamble and Scott McGarrahan.

The other safety of the roster is recent acquisition Alphonso Roundtree.
