Eagles Eye Tight End

Breaking news on the Chiefs, vibes from the Eagles and what the Jets and Giants are doing.

The TFY Draft Preview has learned Wake Forest defensive end Calvin Pace is making his way up draft boards and ranks highly on the Kansas City Chief list. Pace was flown out to the Chiefs facility last week and head coach Dick Vermeil will personally work him out tomorrow in Winston Salem. Could the Chiefs take him in round one? Possibly according to the source we spoke with as Pace blew scouts away earlier this month running in the mid 4.6 range during Pro Day workouts, or they may trade down and select him.

While Pace in round one would be a surprise it could be nothing compared to rumblings out of Philadelphia.

The number player presently sitting number one on the Eagles board is tight end Jason Witten but a fast riser is LJ Smith of Rutgers. A source we spoke with said it is unlikely the Eagles would take Smith in round one but not at all inconceivable they would trade down into the early reaches of round two and select him. Evidently one player the Eagles are cooling on is Michael Haynes as they just do not feel Penn State players project well at the next level.

Getting back to Wake Forest, evidently Ovie Mughelli is highly thought of by both New York football teams. The Jets had their running backs coach in Winston Salem to work out the big fullback as a possible replacement for the departed Richie Anderson and word is the Giants will bring Mughelli north to their complex.

One last note on the Jets. While this may be old news there seems to be a twist.

According to our friends at www.footballinjuries.com, the Jets and Texans discussed a deal last week at the owner's meetings in which the Jets would send RB Lamont Jordan and the higher of their two first-round picks for the Texans first-round pick (#3 overall). However, the Texans went in another direction and decided to sign free agent RB Stacey Mack instead to a one-year deal. They believe Mack is just as good as Jordan at this point.

The Jets have Miami WR Andre Johnson #1 on their draft board and here's the twist: they will continue to look at ways to move up to select the player that they most covet--Johnson.
