The first five players have been ditched from the Eagles roster, bringing the group down to 85. The cuts, none of which are surprising, are as follows:
WR B.J. Cunningham
DE Frances Mays
S Davon Morgan
Cunningham was deep in the receiving corps, long past the point where anything short of a Herculean performance was going to save him. Mays had his moments in the Bears game, but never ascended the depth chart, leaving him stuck behind the likes of Brandon Bair and Taylor Hart, among others.
Morgan never made an impact, plain and simple. Spear never even saw the field in preseason, as Alex Henery soundly crushed him in camp. Villanueva's tale of heroics and sacrifice didn't translate to football where he, like Mays, couldn't climb the chart.
No word on when further cuts will take place.
