Still No Word on Tonight's Offensive Line

The line was in question following the losses of Evan Mathis and Allen Barbre in Week 1's victory over the Jaguars. Little is concrete about the line configuration in tonight's game.

All throughout the past week, 2012 draft choice Dennis Kelly has filled in at left guard, in place of injured All-Pro Evan Mathis. Veteran free agent signing Andrew Gardner took the majority of right tackle snaps in practice, replacing Allen Barbre, who's out for the season.

Despite this practice set-up, Kelly and Gardner have not been named official starters for tonight's game in Indianapolis.

Although it seems highly likely that this will be the line's make-up, wedging the back-ups in with Jason Peters, Jason Kelce, and Todd Herremans, no official word has been given. Veteran lineman Wade Smith was signed a week ago to add depth, and while he's a proven starter (a 2012 Pro-Bowler), his inexperience with Chip Kelly's playbook may be all that's holding him back.

Whatever the case, Brent Celek is expected to add blocking depth to the right side of the line. Nick Foles struggled last week with what he was seeing on the 'sight-side' of the line, and extra protection should aid his throws. It remains possible that Herremans could play right tackle, which he's done previously in 2011-12. In all likelihood, the game would probably start with Herremans at his more natural guard position.
