Ryans Likely Out For Season

An unfortunate occurrence has cost the Eagles defense perhaps their most versatile linebacker.

DeMeco Ryans became just the second Eagles defender to nab an interception this season, but the joy was short-lived.

Seconds later, Ryans crumpled to the turf, fumbling the ball back to the Texans. The turnover off the turnover was the least of his problems.

On the play, Ryans ruptured his Achilles tendon and had to be carted off of the field. The injury will likely cost Ryans the remainder of the 2014 season.

With Ryans out, Casey Matthews will likely be pressed back in at middle linebacker, although his diagnostic skills are unproven. Mychal Kendricks is a candidate to take over the radio helmet, as is safety Malcolm Jenkins.

Emmanuel Acho and Marcus Smith will be pressed in more as third and fourth middle safety options. It remains to be seen if an outside linebacker such as Brandon Graham could see reps inside to increase the unit's potency.
