Head Coach and Executive Director of Football Operations Andy Reid and Tom Heckert, the Director of Player Personnel, met with the media this afternoon in a pre-draft press conference. In typical Reid fashion, little information was given, and there is no indication as to what the team will do with the 26th overall pick on Saturday.
There was no indication which positions the Eagles are most interested in strengthening through the draft. When asked if there are any positions that he would not select, Reid cleared his throat and said, "Quarterback". The general feeling is that the Eagles plan to stick to their draft board pretty close.
"There's a possibility of a few trades [in the first round]," said Reid. "There are some people [teams] who are up a little higher I could see trading down, there are some people [teams] down there a little bit lower, not too far down, but a little bit lower that I think would like to get up and get a few players."
Reid also indicated that he feels the middle linebacker position is in good hands with Barry Gardner, and that it is not an immediate need despite the fact that two-time Pro Bowler Jeremiah Trotter will not be resigned. "We feel very comfortable with what we have at middle linebacker", said Reid, who also indicated his general satisfaction with the team as a whole unit.
"We're not going to tell", was Reid's answer when asked which position was deepest in talent. And the subject was dropped like a hot potato. The only thing was learned from the press conference was that Joey Harrington and David Carr will not be playing for Philadelphia this coming season. Then again, I think we were all aware of that before-hand!
