Position Analysis: Special Teams

In our final piece of our rundown of Eagles specialty units, we take a look at special teams. The Eagles went through a host of punters in 2005, but David Akers stayed constant.

PK: David Akers, P Dirk Johnson, PR Reno Mahe, KR Rod Hood.

Akers is one of the league's very best kickers. Johnson missed much of the season with a sports hernia, but will be back. He doesn't have a great leg, but is consistent and has a good net average.

Mahe doesn't have great speed, but is sure-handed and managed to average a league-best 12.8 yards per return in '05. The Eagles probably will find a KR replacement for Hood, who isn't really a homerun threat. Two options are RBs Ryan Moats and Bruce Perry.

John Harbaugh's coverage units always are among the best in the league.

Look for the Eagles to stay within the organization or possiby use one of the players that they draft for another spot on the team in return spots.
