McNabb missed the final seven games last season and the injury will cause him to miss the final six of this season, giving him almost a full season of games lost to injuries over the past two years. Prior to that, McNabb had suffered a broken ankle during the 2002 season and missed the final six regular season games before returning to play in the post-season.
Jeff Garcia replaced McNabb, but was unable to move the offense, adding just a touchdown pass to L.J. Smith. The Eagles kept Garcia busy as he put up 48 passes, completing 26 of them for 189 yards. Garcia will likely become the number one quarterback and lead the Eagles (5-5) for the rest of the season as they look to find a way to get back into the playoff hunt. A tough schedule will make their pursuit almost impossible.
The Titans used a strong ground game by Travis Henry to pound away at the Eagles' defense on their way to the 31-13 win. Quarterback Vince Young certainly wasn't dominating, but did enough to give his team a chance to win, improving the Titans' record to 3-7 on the season. Henry finished the day with 143 yards on 18 carries, while Young just 8 of 22 passes for 101 yards. Young also contributed to the ground game with 49 yards rushing.
Tennessee got two touchdowns on big plays; Pacman Jones returned a punt 90 yards for one score and Henry ran 70 yards for another. A fumble recovery on a high snap late in the game gave Tennessee another score and sank the Eagles hopes of any comeback.
Next week, the Eagles will be in Indianapolis to take on the Colts. That game marks the start of a stretch where the Eagles will play four of their next five games on the road before coming home for the season-ending game.
