Coaching Staff Nearing Completion

The Eagles were taking a wait-and-see approach in filling their special teams coordinator's spot. Ultimately, the search for the new coordinator ended when they glanced down their own sideline.

Rory Segrest couldn't have had an easy time since his boss, John Harbaugh stepped aside to take a different coaching role with the Eagles. Segrest had to sit and wait to see if the Eagles would go outside the organization to fill the job or give him a shot at the job.

Segrest's break may well have come when the Chicago Bears signed Dave Toub to a three-year contract extension last Thursday. Toub, who had been a member of Andy Reid's staff from 2001 to 2003, was courted by the Eagles to take over for Harbaugh. Instead, Toub decided to stay with the Bears.

The Eagles then looked in-house for Harbaugh's replacement and found Segrest ready, willing and able.

Segrest came to the Eagles a year ago from Samford and had also coached at Southeast Missouri State, Alabama and Auburn. He worked for the Eagles as their special teams quality control coach last season.

The Eagles also moved Bill Shuey to the job of defensive assistant and quality control coach. James Urban, who was Andy Reid's assistant will take over as the offensive assistant and quality control coach.

The only job to fill now is Segrest's old job of Special Teams Assistant.
