The severity of Curtis' injury is hard to determine until after the procedure, so there is no set timetable for his return.
"He'll have surgery on [the sports hernia] and be out for a while," head coach Andy Reid said. "I don't know exactly the time. I'll know better after they get in and take care of it... He tried to work through it, but he's unable to function very well with it during practice, so it looks like we'll go in this direction."
Losing Curtis for an extended period of time could be a significant blow to the Eagles offense. He finished last season setting career-highs in receptions (77) and receiving yards (1,110), while also scoring six touchdowns in his first year with Philadelphia.
Curtis joins fellow receivers Reggie Brown (hamstring) and Jamal Jones (ribs) on the injured list, along with defensive tackle Montae Reagor (knee) and ends Victor Abiamiri (broken wrist) and Chris Clemons (calf strain).
