Falcons place Konz on IR, sign Scott

Jonathan Scott (pictured) has been signed to take over for Peter Konz on the Atlanta roster.

Another week, another Falcons' offensive lineman injured. Peter Konz has been placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season.

Konz, himself a replacement for the injured Joe Hawley, hurt his knee early on in the game Sunday in Baltimore and was seen walking around on crutches. He will require season-ending surgery and become the fifth Falcons offensive linemen that had his season end prematurely.

Mike Johnson and Sam Baker were hurt in training camp, while Hawley and Lamar Holmes were hurt during the regular season. Baker and Hawley were starters, while Holmes was filling in. So now two of the fill-ins have been knocked out for the rest of the regular season.

Jonathan Scott has been signed to the Atlanta roster and is on his way to London, where he'll meet the team as it prepares for its game against the Lions on Sunday morning. Scott has started half of the 70 NFL games he's played in after getting drafted by the Royals in 2006. He's also played with the Bill, Steelers and with Mike Tice and the Chicago Bears.

The Falcons will have to determine whether James Stone, an undrafted free agent, is ready for the big-time as a starting center for this game. Atlanta still has Harland Gunn around.

We'll see what the lineup looks like when they release it later this week.
