Falcons sign offensive lineman Jared Smith

The Falcons have another offensive lineman coming to camp.

The Falcons continued building depth on the offensive line Wednesday with the addition of free agent Jared Smith.

To no one’s surprise, this is another former Seattle Seahawks player. Smith was on Seattle’s practice squad in 2013. He was cut last summer. New head coach Dan Quinn was the defensive coordinator with the Seahawks.

Smith is 6-4 and weighs 302 pounds. He was Seattle’s seventh-round pick in the 2013 draft out of New Hampshire. He was actually a defensive lineman in college, but the Seahawks switched him to the offensive line once he became a pro.

We’ll see if new offensive line coach Chris Morgan can continue to develop Smith into a lineman that fits the zone blocking scheme the Falcons will implement in 2015.
