Falcons work out Joe Barksdale

The Falcons need more help on the offensive line. Could Joe Barksdale provide another option?

The Falcons did not make a significant addition to the offensive line during the draft, but they are still looking at the free agent market for potential help on the line of scrimmage.

Howard Balzer of The SportsXchange reported Monday the Falcons had free agent offensive tackle Joe Barksdale in for a tryout.

Barksdale is 27 years old and tips the scales at 6-5 and 313 pounds. He started all 16 games last season for the Rams at right tackle. Two years ago Barksdale played in 16 games for St. Louis and started 13 games. He played 16 games as a reserve for Oakland in his rookie season of 2011.

The Falcons are counting on the return of Sam Baker, who missed the entire 2014 season with a knee injury. Also, last year’s top pick Jake Matthews is also coming off offseason surgery. Ryan Schraeder, who started nine games at right tackle last season, is also in the mix.

Atlanta’s depth could be bolstered by the addition of Barksdale, who has also reportedly generated interest from Tennessee.
