The stats tell the story. Sean Renfree's numbers were better than T.J. Yates' numbers on Friday night in Atlanta's second exhibition season game versus the Jets.
Renfree was 10-14 for 94 yards, while Yates was 8-15 for 78 yards and an interception.
It was the second straight game for Renfree to look better than Yates, who was expected to keep his job as Matt Ryan's main backup.
New head coach Dan Quinn has come in with an open mind on the position. He's stated numerous times it is a competition. If that's true, then Renfree is likely winning him over with very solid play in the first two games.
However, a lot can happen in the next two preseason games. Yates and Renfree will get significant snaps, particularly in the final game. So there is still time for Yates to save his job.
But right now, Renfree may be in the lead to be the number two quarterback for the Falcons.
