Falcons shock the Cowboys 39-28

Devonta Freeman scores as the Falcons spiked the Cowboys in Dallas.

Wow. What a game.

The Falcons beat the Cowboys Sunday 39-28. They were down 14-0 early on, but they never gave up and controlled the second half outscoring Dallas 22-0.

You could say the Falcons may not have won if quarterback Tony Romo and wide receiver Dez Bryant had played for the Cowboys. But they wouldn’t have kept Dallas from giving up 39 points.

The star of the game for Atlanta was running back Devonta Freeman, who filled in for Tevin Coleman and was remarkably good. Freeman made the first start of his NFL career and had 141 yards on 30 carries with three touchdowns. Freeman also caught five passes for 52 yards, so he had 193 total yards offense on the day.

But then again, that Jones fellow had another superb showing. Julio Jones had 12 catches for 164 yards with two touchdowns. The Cowboys simply could not stop Jones, who now has made 34 catches for 440 yards in the first three games of the season.

The Atlanta defense was gouged early on, as the Cowboys got two quick scores in the first period. But then, they shut Dallas down. Former Cowboys’ linebacker Justin Durant did very well, leading the Falcons with nine tackles. Safety Ricardo Allen, who was benched for a time last week, was second with seven tackles.

William Moore picked off a Brandon Weeden pass, while Vic Beasley and Adrian Clayborn both registered a sack.

The Falcons are 3-0 and, oh by the way, the Saints are 0-3. Atlanta is tied with Carolina (3-0) for the lead in the NFC South.
