Atlanta releases veteran linebacker Justin Durant after just one season

The Falcons are off and running on the offseason with the release of Justin Durant.

Injured defensive players Justin Durant and William Moore were released Monday by the Atlanta Falcons. It's the first major decision by Thomas Dimitroff and the Atlanta front office.

Durant arrived in Atlanta with a reputation of having injuries with the Cowboys. Durant played in only 16 games in the last two seasons in Dallas. He played in 13 games for Atlanta this past season, but Durant still struggled to stay on the field with various ailments.

Durant was second on the team in tackles with 82.

The Falcons save around $2.5 million on cap space by releasing Durant. They avoided his $1.75 million salary for next season by releasing Durant Monday.

Atlanta is expected to target linebackers in free agency and perhaps the draft.
