Might the Falcons look at former Bulldogs' star Charles Johnson for a pass rusher?

Charles Johnson is now a free agent. Might he interest the Falcons?

Charles Johnson is from Georgia - Hawkinsville, in south Georgia, to be exact. He went to the University of Georgia. Could he come back to his homestate to continue his NFL career?

Johnson was released Thursday by Carolina. He had played nine seasons with the Panthers and was second on the team's all-time list in sacks with 63.5.

Last season Johnson missed seven games with a hamstring injury. He returned for the playoffs and had five tackles and a sack in the Super Bowl.

Two years ago Johnson played in all 16 games and had 8.5 sacks. From 2010 through 2014, a five-year span, Johnson had a total of 52.5 sacks.

The Falcons are in desperate need of a veteran for the defense. Also, they are expected to pursue pass rushers through free agency. Does Johnson have anything left in the tank?

Johnson turns 30 in July. He has just had the most-injured season of his career, which is a concern with an aging player. But Johnson was effective when he returned for the playoffs, with three sacks and two forced fumbles in three games.

Buffalo released Mario Williams earlier this week. Williams just turned 31 at the end of January.
