The Atlanta Falcons need a center. Alex Mack is the best free agent available, but he might cost a lot. So the Falcons may have to look elsewhere for help in the middle of the offensive line of scrimmage.
Could former Georgia Bulldogs’ lineman Ben Jones be an option? He might be cheaper than Mack, but Jones does come with questions.
Jones moved from guard to center for the 2015 season and started all 16 games. But after the season it was learned Jones played with a sprained MCL in his knee and had back issues.
Will the questions about Jones’ health cause some teams to stay away? The Texans expressed interest in retaining Jones, but the two sides were unable to come to an agreement.
Jones turns 27 this July, so he’s younger than the 30-year-old Mack. The Falcons should know all about Jones’ toughness, as that reputation was widely known when Jones was in Athens.
If Mack gets too expensive, Jones could easily become an option for the Falcons to improve the center position.
