A year ago new Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn seemed disappointed that Sean Weatherspoon was leaving to join the Arizona Cardinals. Now Quinn will get his man.
Weatherspoon has agreed to a deal with the Falcons to return to Atlanta, where he played the first five seasons of his NFL career.
The Falcons grabbed Weatherspoon in the first round of the 2010 draft out of Missouri. His best season was in 2011 when he started all 16 games and had four sacks and 82 tackles.
Weatherspoon had trouble staying healthy while in Atlanta. He played in only 11 games (five starts) as a rookie. Then in 2012 Weatherspoon missed three games. He played in only seven games in 2013 and then missed the entire 2014 season with a ruptured Achilles' tendon.
Last season in Arizona, Weatherspoon played in 14 games, all as a reserve.
The Falcons will likely use Weatherspoon at middle linebacker with Paul Worrilow.
