Former Atlanta defensive tackle Paul Soliai joins division rival Carolina

The Falcons will have to face Paul Soliai twice a year, as he joins the Panthers.

A week after releasing Paul Soliai, the Falcons had to wince a bit as they heard Soliai is joining the NFC South rival Carolina Panthers.

ESPN reported the deal for Soliai is two years and for $7 million, with $3 million guaranteed.

The 32-year-old Soliai signed a five-year contract with Atlanta two years ago for $32 million. The Falcons released him because of his $6.8 million cap hit, which was the third-highest on the roster.

Soliai had 22 tackles, three tackles for loss and five quarterback hits. The defensive tackle had a calf injury that cut his 2015 season two games short.

The Falcons still have Ra'Shede Hageman, Jonathan Babineaux and Grady Jarrett in the middle of the defensive line.
