Atlanta may add another linebacker

Could the Falcons bring in another linebacker? Courtney Upshaw is visiting.

The Falcons hosted free agent linebacker Courtney Upshaw and look to have a solid chance at adding the four-year veteran.

Upshaw spent the last four years with the Baltimore Ravens. The Jets, Patriots and 49ers have also had interest.

Upshaw is an outside linebacker who stands 6-2 an weighs 272 pounds. He was a second round pick out of Alabama in 2012 by the Ravens.

The Falcons need help at outside linebacker after the release of Justin Durant and with O'Brien Schofield still a free agent. Talks between Atlanta and Schofield have not gone well.

Brooks Reed was penciled in to start last season at the strong-side linebacker spot, but injuries kept him out most of the season and gave Schofield a chance to be a more valued member of the defense.

Atlanta is believed to have around $5 million in cap space, not counting the money that will go to rookies and the additional $5 million that will be freed after June 1 with the release of Paul Soliai.
