Matthews schedules Falcons workout's Ed Thompson has learned that USC LB Clay Matthews will visit the Atlanta Falcons after USC's Pro Day on April 1st. The gifted linebacker has been one of the fastest risers on draft boards and he's positioned himself to possibly be taken at the end of the first round. Read on to find out more...

While Matthews has already proven to be a solid prospect and worked out fully at the Combine in February, he said he still plans to do a full workout on April 1st.

"I believe that I'm only going to improve, so I decided to keep working at these drills for another month, show up on April 1 and give it everything I've got," Matthews told Thompson.

Thompson also reports that Matthews, who had more than 25 formal interviews at the Combine, said that the Broncos, Dolphins, Giants, Jets, Eagles and Titans were among the teams that he sat down with face-to-face.

The Dolphins and the Redskins are just two of the teams who have already set up a private workout with him this month and Matthews will be in Flowery Branch on April 2nd to meet with the Falcons as well.

Matthews, who's father and uncle (Clay and Bruce) both had long careers in the NFL, was a 195-pound linebacker prospect who walked on to and spent the next five years with arguably the most talent-rich programs in the country.

After his redshirt season and three years of playing special teams and reserve roles for the Trojans, Matthews blew up as a senior in 2008 posting 56 tackles, nine tackles-for-loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one blocked kick.

He isn't an outstanding athlete, but he runs well, he's got a high football I.Q. and he's a sure tackler.

Don't be surprised if you hear his name comes up in Falcons discussion should they choose to trade down in the first round.
