The Atlanta Falcons have announced that they have released three players, including veterans Von Hutchins and Ben Hartsock.
Hutchins, a cornerback, and Hartsock, a tight end, were two of Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff's first free agent class when each player signing a four-year, $9 million dollar contract last off-season.
Hutchins missed all of the 2008 season after suffering a Lisfranc fracture in his foot. The Falcons used two of their draft picks on cornerbacks (Christopher Owens, William Middleton) and earlier today traded a 2010 seventh-round pick to the St. Louis Rams for former 1st round pick Tye Hill.
Hartsock started 11 games for the Falcons, but made just 3 receptions for 26 yards and the Falcons acquired future Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez during the off-season.
Also released on Tuesday was first-year defensive end Willie Evans.
Today's roster moves puts the Falcons roster at 73, allowing them to peruse the waiver wire for possible roster additions before Thursday's preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens.
