Round Five

Giants boost OL with Diehl

The Giants entered Sunday admittedly looking for help at corner and on the offensive line. They addressed the CB need by grabbing Rod Babers in the fourth round, then bolstered their OL by tabbing David Diehl of Illinois in the fifth round. The 6-6, 310-pounder was viewed by his coaches as the Illini's most athletic offensive linemen. He was a late bloomer who was finally given a full-time opportunity as a senior.

Diehl, who has played every OL spot but center, was named second-team All-Big Ten last year, when he started every game at left guard and recorded 91 knockdowns. He's likely to push Tam Hopkins and Omar Smith for a reserve OL spot.
