A two-year starter and team captain, Ponder hauled in 157 passes for 2,543 yards and 26 touchdowns in 23 games. He also added 540 yards on 25 kickoff returns (21.6 avg.) and 27 yards and a score on seven punt returns.

With its first supplemental pick (#207), Big Blue grabbed CB Frank Walker from Tuskegee. Another return man, Walker, 5-11, 197, recorded six career INTs and posted 92 tackles.

New York spent its second supplemental choice in the sixth round (#211) on Syracuse WR David Tyree. The Giants drafted Tyree, 6-1, 197, for his special teams ability more so than his prowess or lack of same as a receiver. He was a valuable performer on Syracuse's kickoff and punt coverage units. He also blocked five kicks and caught 75 passes for 1,214 yards during his career.
