Megatron to face Optimus Prime on MNF

New York Giants corerback Dominique Rogers-Cromartie will have his hands full on Monday Night as he tries to lock down one of the league's most prolific weapons in wide receiver Calvin Johnson

In Monday night's showdown, the Detriot Lions take on the New York Giants. The prime time game features two of the NFL's best athletes, as the story line of Week 1's action features Calvin Johnson against the Giants biggest offseason acquisition, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. DRC, faces off as Optimus Prime, with his stunning 4.29 40 time, and 6'2 frame. Many tend to believe that this is Johnson's battle to lose. Asking Johnson, even he would say that the Giants secondary can potentially cause fits. When asked about the teams secondary, Johnson responded talking about the potential of facing off against either corner. He stated that

"They’ve got a mixed group," noted the Giants star. "I’ve played against most of them for the most part, at least the outside guys in Cromartie and Prince. Both of them have pretty good ball skills. Cromartie is a very shifty guy, a very long guy. Prince likes to get his hands on you, it seems like, early in the play. We’ve just got to work early in the down."

Most suspect that Rodgers-Cromartie will be the martyr facing off against Detroit's superstar wideout. However, you shouldn't sneeze DRC's performance as a lock-down corner with the Broncos last season, as he helped the Broncos vie for a chance at the Super Bowl. Looking into the season DRC had, he had a combined 13 interceptions and passes deflected. Also, according to ProFootballFocus.com, when the ball was thrown into Rodgers-Cromartie's area, the offense completed just 44 percent of its passes, making Denver fans forget about the great Champ Bailey.

However, Rodgers-Cromartie is facing an immense challenge in his first battle. Johnson may go down as the NFL's best Receiver of all time. With over 3,500 yards over the past two seasons and added weapons in the passing game, holding Calvin down may be harder than ever. In past seasons, most teams have attempted to combat Calvin's athleticism attacking him with double teams. With the additions of Golden Tate and Eric Ebron, the Lions have made it near impossible for any team to inflict double teams on Megatron. This will force DRC into a Monday Night Matchup that should have your popcorn ready.

Monday's matchup will be a joy to watch, and as fans we should watch this matchup closely. Will the Giants give Rodgers-Cromartie help over the top, or will the 1-on-1 matchup turn into a shootout? The clash of the two transformers should have a story line to follow, and a side show to watch throughout the night.
