Cruz tears patellar tendon, out for year

Victor Cruz's season is over after suffering a torn patellar tendon in the third quarter of Sunday Night's embarrassing 27-0 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Things went from bad to worse for the New York Giants on Sunday as Victor Cruz suffered a torn patellar tendon and was visibly emotional after being carted off the field in the third quarter of Sunday night’s loss.

Already trailing 20-0, Eli Manning slung a pass in Cruz’s direction on a 4th-and-goal play and the receiver appeared to plant awkwardly as he leapt for the ball and began writhing in pain and clutched his knee as he fell to the ground.

NBC’s sideline reporter Michelle Tafoya told the viewing audience that she heard audible yelps of agony from Curz as the Giants training staff lifted him off the field and onto the cart. The normal timetable for an injury of this nature is 6-9 months, which would mean No. 80 wouldn’t return until the start of 2015 training camp at the earliest.

Cruz’s devastating injury is just the latest setback to a Giants team that appears to be sinking fast in a formidable NFC East.
