If you wanted some entertainment this past Sunday afternoon, the New York Giants and the St Louis Ram provided plenty of it for the you. The Giants and Rams consisted of penalties, fights, dirty play and much more that had a game of non playoff implications feel like a playoff game. Through all of that though, the Giants were able to pull out a 37-27 victory over the Rams, leave St Louis will a three game winning streak.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin said on his being able to pull out a victory over the Rams “ It was an outstanding team win yesterday for our Giant team against a very physical football team in the St. Louis Rams, We are pleased as a team to go in there and get the lead in a tightly-contested game and to be able to come away from there with a win.”
The G-Men to get the win, were able to offensively score 37 points on a Rams defense, that had only given up an average of 9.2 points the past five games and are one of the best defenses in football. That can in large part to quarterback Eli Manning, who three touchdown passes and for the second game in a row did not throw an interception.
Coughlin on Eli’s play in the month of December and for the whole season said “I think he was very, very, much tuned only into what was going on, on the field. He was as focused and as zoomed in on what he was looking for in this game as any game we have seen this year. He prepares himself extremely well, he does that for every game. I thought his ability to get us into the right runs, his ability to check versus pressure, his ability to stand in the pocket and make plays, all of those things were there yesterday afternoon. He obviously played very, very, well.”
The Giants offense overall has seemed to be clicking over the past few weeks. Coughlin said on the offense being able to find themselves here at the end of the season “We definitely, based on yesterday, we are on track, let’s put it that way. We did a lot of good things.” Sunday’s win over the Rams, also brought a coming out party for a Giants player of defense as well. That player was defensive end Kerry Wynn, who had a game to remember. Wynn had a sack, an interception, and a fumble recovery, after being thrust into more playing time after fellow defensive end Damontre Moore, who was ejected from the game for his involvement in one of the fights during the game. Coughlin on Wynn stepping up for the Giants said “He played solid for us in there. His presence is felt. He holds his gap. He is a powerful young man and he is just going to keep on getting better as he goes along.” With the win the Giants improved to 6-9 on the season and have also won five straight games against the Rams. The Giants will now finish their season with a home game against NFC East division rival the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Giants win they will finish for the second straight year at 7-9 and will finish with a 3-3 record in NFC East divisional play.
