Hakeem Nicks has every intention of playing on Sunday against the Redskins, but ultimately understands that the final decision will be up to the coaching staff and front office.
“I know I can be ready, but that’s not my decision to make,” said Nicks. “That will be made by the coaches and the higher-ups.”
Nicks rejoined the Giants last week after spending two season away from the organization. Head coach Tom Coughlin told reporters that Nicks would initially take part in scout team practice reps, but it appears Big Blue’s coaching staff when full tilt and plugged him in with the first team offense.
“I took reps with the offense too,” said Nicks. “I didn’t just take scout team reps. Don’t try me like that. I came to play now. I came to play, I promise.”
Nicks’ last year with the Giants was 2013, one year before Odell Beckham Jr. burst onto the scene. The fellow wide receiver offered high praise for the second year superstar and marveled at his athleticism.
“Explosive kid,” said Nicks. “Glad to have him as a teammate, glad to be playing alongside him. He’s a talented athlete. One of the best.”
