With only a few games remaining in the season, each game is crucial. The Giants play the Dolphins on Monday night, and Eli Manning is focusing on just winning the game.
“So I think we obviously have played a lot of close ones, but I think just get the mindset we’ve got to finish. We’ve got to finish the season strong, we’ve got to finish games strong, we’ve got to finish practices strong, everything. Right now the mindset of finishing better and that’s our challenge.”
However, finishing hasn’t been a strong suite for this Giants squad, blowing multiple fourth quarter leads including last weekend’s matchup against the Jets. At this point, their record of 5-7 likely won’t put them in wildcard contention, but the NFC East is still up for grabs, which would also mean a first round playoff game at home. Before the Giants and their fans can have those visions of grandeur, they need to start winning some games against teams they need to beat.
When asked if Manning had lost any belief in himself, his team, or his teammates he responded saying, “Definitely not. No, you can’t do that. We’ve been right there, we’ve played teams tough, and we’ve done a lot of good things and we’ve got to continue to do good things and just clean some things up. When things get tighter, the pressure gets on, and that’s when we’ve got to raise our level of play.”
A trendy sleeper pick to make a deep run in the playoffs, the Dolphins haven’t met expectations. Even with Suh in the middle, teams have been able to run on the Dolphins, and the Giants will try to take advantage of this to get their run game going.
“We’ve got to run the ball, we’re going to run it. We’ve got to run, we’ve got to be effective with it because that will help out, that will slow down the pass rush, that will help out the play action and do everything.”
With the struggles of the NFC East, Manning summarized the NFC East race and its craziness. “As long as you’re in the race, that’s the most important thing. Usually it comes down to December. What happens in December, who’s got the best record, who wins these matchups.”
December started with a loss to the Jets, but this Dolphins game almost seems like a game they need to win.
