Giants 2016 Mock Draft: First Round

The Giants Beat stakes up their prediction for the Giants first round pick with what the other "experts" are saying.

With mock draft season really starting to heat up, experts have begun predicting what they believe the Giants are going to do with their first round selection. The following are the projections made by some experts in their mock drafts:

Mel Kiper jr. – Shaquille Lawson

Todd McShay- Ezekiel Elliott

Bucky Brooks- Vernon Hargreaves III

Daniel Jeremiah- Laquon Treadwell

Rob Rang- Ezekiel Elliott

Dane Brugler- Ronnie Stanley

Peter Schrager- Leonard Floyd

Chris Burke- Laquon Treadwell

All of these picks make sense for one reason or another, especially when considering how many different ways that the draft can go before it even reaches the Giants pick.  The Giants have a lot of areas that they could sure up during the draft. I think Kiper’s projection of Shaquille Lawson was probably before the re-signing of Jason Pierre-Paul and the signing of Olivier Vernon.

Similarly, Vernon Hargreaves III  probably would have made more sense before the signing of Janoris Jenkins, but if the Giants use their first round pick on a cornerback that wouldn’t improve the team as much as another player would. At this point, I think going another direction would be better for them.  Laquon Treadwell and Ezekiel Elliott are the two players that came up in multiple projections. While both would provide a needed offensive weapon for the Giants offensive attack, I think the best route would be offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley, if he were still on the board at pick # 10.

After the departures of Geoff Schwartz and William Beatty, the Giants look like they need to solidify the offensive line. Ronnie Stanley could very easily be the top offensive tackle taken in most years, but this year teams might be able to get him at a lower pick in the draft.  Stanley is a very strong pass blocker and has the size and length to be a pro bowl tackle if he can work on some of his technique.

This pick might not be the most exciting pick, but if he were on the board it would more than likely be the best pick. Stanley would fit a need at tackle, and could still possibly be the best available player. If Stanley is still on the board at pick number ten they should be very excited.
