After only two seasons in the NFL, Odell Beckham Jr. became a household name in the world of football.
At 23 years old, OBJ is well beyond his years and has a natural charisma that earned him a lot of respect on and off of the field. This guy is able to make a record-breaking performance almost look easy.
There is a natural responsibility to proliferate that same passion and drive as an accomplished player and he certainly leads by example. Throughout minicamp, he is focused on being a positive influence for his teammates.
“I’m trying to embrace this leadership role, it’s hard because I’m not a very vocal leader— I kind of lead by action— so if you’re not really out there leading by action, there’s days where I have to grow up myself and still get something out of it,” Beckham said.
As the face of the franchise, all eyes are always on the star, but OBJ has a lot of confidence in his supporting cast. After a long awaited recovery process, fellow WR Victor Cruz is planning to return this season and OBJ could not be more excited about the dynamic duo.
Cruz is an explosive player with playoff experience and a championship ring under his belt. He thrives under pressure and showcased his superior ability in the season leading up to the Super Bowl victory. As one of the most celebrated seasons of his career, he caught 82 passes for a franchise record 1,536 yards and 9 touchdowns.
Many have speculated about the kind of damage they could cause on the field together and this season, it might became a reality.
While Giants fans should be very excited to see the comeback of the salsa, they cannot get too ahead of themselves. Rookie Sterling Shepard will be the more active WR for the upcoming season. OBJ is leaving fans on the edge of their seats with astonishing predictions for Shepard’s NFL debut.
“He’s going to be a phenomenal player. He can run routes, he can catch, he can pretty much do it all. So I’m definitely looking forward to seeing him develop,” Beckham said. “I just feel like I really know what he’s capable of and I’d rather let him just shock the world than spill his secrets.”
