Giants 2016 Schedule Preview: Vikings

The Giants Beat previews Big Blue's Week 4 opponent, the Minnesota Vikings.

In the fourth week of the NFL regular season, the New York Giants travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings . After a successful 2015 season, the Vikings only got better this offseason with some key acquisitions.

Key Free Agent Signings:

The Minnesota Vikings made two huge improvements to their offensive line by signing Alex Boone and Andre Smith. Smith will have a tough time earning the starting job, however, Boone should become an immediate starter for the Vikings. The Vikings also added both Travis Lewis and Emmanuel Lamur, both of whom will add depth to the Vikings linebacking core. Lastly, Michael Griffin adds depth to an already talented group of safeties.

Key Free Agent Departures:

The Vikings did not lose many players in free agency. However, the loss of Mike Wallace is notable. Though Wallace under-performed with the Vikings, he was a quality depth wide receiver and was once a very talented player. The Vikings also lost Robert Blanton and Josh Robinson, both of whom didn’t have much of a role with the team.

Trades: None

Top 3 Impact Rookies:

First round pick Laquon Treadwell will be a starting receiver for the Vikings and will likely have the greatest impact on the team. Next, 2nd round pick Mackensie Alexander should have a solid impact in the secondary. Alexander was a very good value pick late in the 2nd round for the Vikings. Many projected Alexander as a 1st round pick, but he ended up falling to the Vikings in the 2nd round. Lastly, 5th round pick Moritz Böhringer should have an impact on the team. Bohringer was another value pick in the 5th round. Boehringer has a lot of pressure on him being one of the few European players in the league. Behind a very mediocre starting group of recievers, Boehringer has a chance to make an impact this season.

Most Intriguing Storyline Heading Into Training Camp:

The Vikings receiving core as a whole is the most intriguing storyline heading into camp. With the addition of Treadwell and Boehringer, recent breakout receiver Stefon Diggs is up for some competition. A young Charles Johnson also adds some competition to the group and Cordarrelle Patterson, who had a very poor season last year, has been said to have improved this offseason and should also make this a competitive camp. It will be interesting to see which recievers come out as the starters out of this group.

Under-The-Radar Storyline Heading Into Training Camp:

The offensive line coming together as a unit serves as an interesting topic going into camp. The Vikings added Boone to their offensive line, so watching this unit come together as one offensive line should be interesting. Playing together as one unit is key for an offensive line.

Key Injuries Heading Into Training Camp:

Center John Sullivan has an injured back and is questionable for training camp. He is definitely the player to watch when it comes to injuries. Along with Sullivan, Sharrif Floyd is coming off of an injured knee but is expected to be a participant in training camp.

The Giants are in for a tough week 4 matchup of the 2016 regular season. Keep an eye on the Vikings as they look to improve from an excellent 2015 regular season.
