The Philadelphia Eagles will most definitely NOT be on the New York Giants’ Christmas Card list this year. Big Blue could have booked their place in the postseason with a win over Philly on Thursday Night Football but will have to wait another week after their 24-19 loss.
Given what was on display yesterday, many in Giants Nation are already panicking. The team had a significantly higher time of possession (34-26), more yardage (470-286) and more first downs (24-15). The G-Men were also higher in one other category that ultimately led to their downfall- turnovers. Eli Manning had 3 INTs over rookie Carson Wentz's 1. The multiple picks are not very surprising, Eli threw 63 times, completing 38 passes for 356 yards and only 1 TD.
Equally culpable was Odell Beckham Jr. who had an equally prolific if unproductive day with 11 catches for 150 yards but no TDs. Also, at the end of the game, the combustible WR erupted, visibly screaming and shouting as he headed to the locker room.
Fortunately for the Giants, they control their own destiny and only a combination of a loss and several results going against them for New York to not make the playoffs. The offense is still trying to find that breakout game in which everything is going right but time is running out. While the defense has put in a solid effort week in-week out, the attack is just not consistent enough and lacks an identity. Ben McAdoo will need to decide what exactly the plan with the attack is?
Are they going to pass every down with the threat of interceptions always looming or are they going to get by with an inconsistent running back committee and keep leaning on their QB and receivers to create big plays.null
