As OTAs continue, the New York Giants are preparing for the new NFL season with a newly sparked roster. The one constant remains for the G-men as Eli Manning remains under center and team captain. Eli is set to answer the Giants’ tough questions occuring within the team.
Manning is known for never missing a day of work. Unlike Odell Beckham, he made his first appearance for OTAs this past week. This was the first time Odell lined up alongside Manning since the loss to the Green Bay Packers in the wildcard round.
“It was good to have everybody out there, out there practicing. I thought we had a good practice. It was sharp.”
Eli is entering his 4th season with Odell as his number one target. The relationship has been strong through the years but missing practice time sounds uncertain between players. The time missed could effect the flow Odell and Eli have created. Eli was asked about what Odell has missed from the first 10 OTAs.
“Not much, he will be fine. He will know what he is doing and he will be ready to go.”
Odell was everywhere but OTAs to begin the offseason. As for Eli, he kept his role as team captain by staying in contact with the Giants’ superstar.
“Yes. I’ve been talking to him through the off-season. We text and call and we’ve definitely been in touch.”
Manning was happy to see running back Shane Vereen back to practice after missing the second half of last season due to injury. The return of Vereen is helpful to Manning’s backfield after the departure of Rashaed Jennings and the youngsters of Paul Perkins and 2017 draft selection Wayne Gallman. Eli is excited about his running backs for this upcoming season.
“Yes, all of the running backs, again, talented guys. All of them can catch the football, can run the ball, so try to move them around and see what they can handle, but all of them have great confidence in them in their pass protection, running the ball, and catching the football.”
OBJ UPDATE: Odell Beckham Jr. wants to be a Giant for life
The Giants’ roster is finally filling out the OTAs. Manning is eager to get back to work with everyone and get the season going. Hopefully the questions for the rest of OTAs stick to football originated.
