"I kicked hard squib, shade left, and it shot right out of bounds," Bryant said. "It sucks because we fought back from whatever kind of deficit we had. To get down there and kick the winning field goal and to have that happen, it's not good. You hate to see a game end that way." Final words: Here is what some of the key Giants said about their tough OT loss, in the wee hours of the morning.
Michael Strahan - "They just made plays at the end and we didn't. We can't be mad at anybody but ourselves for coming back at the end and letting it slip away."
Tiki Barber - "We played like crap in the first half, in the second half we beat ourselves."
Dhani Jones - "A game like this will either tear apart a team or build one up. Judging from the way we are as a team this will build us up."
Toomer's tops: WR Amani Toomer set two Giants records in the first half of Monday night's contest. His beautiful, diving 40-yard grab in the second quarter sent him over Frank Gifford's Giants receiving total of 5,434 yards. Toomer is New York's all-time receiving yardage leader with 5,533 yards. Toomer also caught a pass in his 69th consecutive game, topping the team record he and Ike Hilliard shared.
Déjà vu: Ralph Brown's first career TD came exactly one year to the day of the last time New York returned an INT for six points. On Sept. 15, 2002, Jason Sehorn intercepted the Rams' Kurt Warner in St. Louis and returned it 31 yards for a touchdown.
Hammer's date postponed: Keith Hamilton's Sept. 15 Morris County court date regarding drug-related charges was postponed two weeks until Monday, Sept. 29. The news wasn't as good on the field for Hamilton, who left the game with a pulled hamstring. Hammer became the 13th player in Giants team history to play 160 games. He's one behind Rosie Brown and Dave Jennings, who each played 161 contests for the Giants.
Monday night madness: The Giants have now lost five consecutive games on Monday night and eight of nine. Overall, the Giants are 15-28-1, 6-8 at home and 9-20-1 on the road, on Monday night. The Giants play one more Monday night game this season, on Nov. 24 at the defending Super Bowl champions Tampa Bay.
Scratched: In addition to Luke Petitgout, the following Giants were inactive for Monday evening's tilt: FB Jim Finn (quad), RB Ron Dayne, CB Ray Green (hamstring), CB Frank Walker, WR Willie Ponder and DE Keith Washington. Jason Garrett was the club's third QB. With Finn out, rookie TE Visanthe Shiancoe started in his place.
