Big Blue survives scare

The Giants and rookie Wayne Lucier dodged a major bullet on Thursday.

Lucier, the Giants' starting center, turned his ankle in practice and was taken off the field on a cart. After sticking his leg in a whirlpool and wrapping his ankle in ice, Lucier said he is fine and will be ready to play Sunday when the 2-2 Giants visit the 3-2 New England Patriots in Gillette Stadium. Lucier was added to the Giants injury list as probable.

Lucier, who stepped on LB Nick Greisen's foot, was replaced by former C Chris Bober, with Ian Allen stepping in for Bober at RT for the duration of practice.

* Rookie defensive tackle William Joseph returned to practice after missing Wednesday's workout with a sore foot. He is listed as questionable, but should be ready to play, barring a setback.
