We can come up with a bunch of excuses for why we're not playing well, but I'm not that type of guy. I don't like coming up with excuses. It's either black or it's white. I think we can play a lot better. The offense has played well at times; the defense has played well at times. But as a team, we have not played well together consistently for 60 minutes.
It's very frustrating because I know what this team is capable of. I fought so hard to get back and I do not want to go out – if this is my last year – like this. I think we are a lot better than what we showed, but the only way we can show it is to go out there and prove it to people.
Physically, I feel great. Playing against the Eagles will be the first game since the Dallas game that I'm going into a game feeling 100 percent. I'm excited about being 100 percent when I'm out there. I'll be as close to 100 percent as I've been since that game when I got hurt. I feel good. I'm just ready to get back out there, hopefully with no more setbacks.
I've been pretty happy with our defensive line, but I don't think we've played up to our expectations. I think (Michael) Strahan is starting to click into mode. I think I'm starting to click into mode. (Cornelius) Griffin has been playing exceptionally well for us, and Kenny Holmes has done some good things for us. As a unit, we haven't been as good as we could be. Part of that is that I haven't been healthy the whole time. For the most part, the guys are playing well; they're playing hard. Any time you have talented guys playing hard, something's going to have to give. Eventually things are going to come together. It might be a little slower than people expected, but for the most part we're playing hard.
I like William Joseph a lot. He has all the attributes of being a great player here for a long, long time. He works hard; he's fast, he's strong. I think once he learns the system he'll be fine. It didn't help him that he came into camp a couple weeks late. As a defensive lineman, that time is real important because you need to get your footwork down and learn the defense and exactly how you fit into the defense. But I think with the talent that he has and his work ethic, Giants fans are going to be happy for years to come.
This year has been tough so far, but each year is different. That's the way I always approach it. I know I can't live off what I did in the past. I still have a lot to prove to people, that I can stay healthy all year. That was something that was never a problem before, but the last two years I haven't been healthy. So I have to prove that I can stay healthy and get back to being a major force on this defense.
At this point, there's nothing really for us to talk about. We're at the point where we know what we need to do. I don't think anyone stepping up or talking is going to do anything for us. We need to win. It's really time for the talking to stop. At some point, you get tired of hearing someone talk. It's time to bang it out and get it on. Lucky for us, the Eagles are coming to town. They're a good team; we're a good team. We both really need to win. We'll just find out who needs it the most.
I don't have any doubts. Once it gets clicking, we're going to start rolling. We've had some injuries too. We have to get everybody healthy. Our offense is special, when it's clicking. But you can't live on talent and potential. Potential is a coach-killer and a player-killer. We have to put it all together. Hopefully we can start right now.
I'm really not sure if this is going to be my last year or not. I want to play as hard as I can as long as I can. At the end of the year, I'll evaluate the situation; as I'm sure the Giants will. But it's not something that I think about on a daily basis. I've done well off the field. I have my own business now. I'll be okay either way.
I have a real estate company in Totowa (N.J.) called "Big Keith's Realty." I manage all the properties that I have all throughout New Jersey. It's a good deal. Fortunately for me, I did a lot of investing in real estate so it worked out well for me.
I can see a scenario where we get on a hot streak and we're heading to Houston for the Super Bowl in February. I couldn't think of any better way for me to go out than that. I couldn't think of anything better.
