* Multiple sources confirmed that Giants owner Wellington Mara called Bills owner Ralph Wilson before Jim Fassel interviewed with Buffalo. Mara and Wilson have been friends for years, and Mara wanted to warn Wilson of Fassel's 'occasional questionable' off-field behavior that had embarrassed New York management at times during Fassel's tenure.
* Tom Coughlin was upset when he was denied an opportunity to hire Rick Reprish, who was on Coughlin's staff in Jacksonville as director of player personnel. Some within the organization were uncomfortable with Coughlin basically having a 'buddy' on board.
* After watching tapes of last season's Giants, Coughlin exclaimed that it was "the worst coached team he's ever seen."
* Despite reports and rumors to the contrary, the Giants were never seriously interested in Tampa Bay free agent DT Warren Sapp, who eventually signed with the Raiders. Can't envision Sapp, who dressed down Bucs coach Jon Gruden on multiple occasions, pulling those stunts in Coughlin's locker room.
